VIGORGROUND SPORT CENTER
The new premises of the Vigor training centre are located on the ground floor and first floor level of a former Litostroj industrial building from the 1960s.
The concept is based on two key goals: preserving the existing character of the spaces and organizing the new program using elements made from resistant, affordable materials with a strong character.
The entrance to the centre is at at ground level, where a central foyer with reception and bar cuts through the depth of the building. From this space, all programs are accessed: a smaller gym on the ground floor, changing rooms, service facilities, and, via a staircase, the main gym on the first floor.
The original concrete structure is painted white and infilled with untreated concrete blocks—a material that in standard construction usually remains hidden, but is used here for its tactile, visual, and acoustic qualities. Into the massive, entirely concrete interior, ‘soft' elements made of automotive tarpaulin material are inserted, replacing doors in various forms. In the shared areas, the original concrete floor has been ground and polished, while the training areas are finished with soft black rubber flooring. All installations are left exposed. The ‘readymade' aesthetic, together with the direct materiality of the interior, creates an informal and relaxed atmosphere.
